Milky body, failed moults, and unexplained shrimp losses

A calm troubleshooting guide for serious warning signs in freshwater shrimp.

Milky body, repeated failed moults, or sudden lethargy should be treated as warning signs, not background noise. These problems often point back to severe stress, internal infection, unstable minerals, recent contamination, or a tank that was not ready in the first place.

Check first

  • Any recent water, fertiliser, medication, or hardscape change.
  • GH, KH, TDS, pH, and temperature stability.
  • Whether a dead organism or decaying food has been missed.
  • Whether losses are clustered after maintenance.

Throwing medication at unexplained losses is often less useful than finding the last major change.
