Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions govern the sale of goods by ShrimpHut through this website. By placing an order, you agree that these terms will apply to the contract between you and us. Nothing in these terms is intended to limit any statutory rights you may have under applicable UK consumer law.

About the website and products

We aim to present products, descriptions, stock information, care notes, images, compatibility guidance, and prices as accurately as reasonably possible. Even so, aquarium livestock and natural products can vary. Colour, pattern, size, sex, shape, and appearance may differ from photographs, and natural materials such as wood, rock, moss, or plants may vary from one item to another.

Orders and contract formation

  • Placing an order is an offer to buy.
  • Orders are subject to acceptance, stock availability, payment authorisation, and any relevant welfare or dispatch checks.
  • An order confirmation email confirms receipt of the order, but does not necessarily mean the order has been accepted in every case.
  • We reserve the right to refuse, cancel, limit, or delay an order where stock, pricing, dispatch suitability, fraud concerns, courier restrictions, or animal welfare make that necessary.

Pricing and payment

Prices displayed on the site are shown in pounds sterling unless stated otherwise. Delivery charges, surcharges, or service upgrades are added as part of checkout where applicable. Payment must usually be authorised before dispatch. If an obvious pricing or listing error has occurred, we may cancel the affected order and contact you about the issue.

Livestock and natural variation

Livestock is not a standard manufactured product. Shrimp, snails, plants, and natural hardscape vary naturally. Juveniles may be harder to sex. Minor visual differences, colour shifts, or natural variation are not by themselves evidence of a fault. Compatibility notes, care guidance, and calculator outputs are general guidance only and do not guarantee success in an individual aquarium.

Customer responsibilities

  • You must provide accurate billing, contact, and delivery details.
  • You must ensure somebody is available to receive livestock promptly where a live delivery is expected.
  • You are responsible for checking your aquarium is suitable before ordering livestock.
  • You should read the product listing, care notes, compatibility information, and relevant policy pages before ordering.
  • You must inspect the order promptly on arrival and report any issue without unnecessary delay.

Dispatch, delivery, and delays

Delivery times are estimates only unless a service is expressly stated as guaranteed by the relevant carrier and available at checkout. We may delay or rearrange livestock dispatch where weather, bank holidays, courier disruption, or welfare concerns make shipment unsuitable. We are not responsible for delays outside our reasonable control, although we will try to assist where possible.

Cancellations and changes

If you need to change or cancel an order, contact us as soon as possible. Changes are not guaranteed once the order has entered processing, packing, or dispatch. Rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations may not apply in full to all goods, particularly where items are liable to deteriorate rapidly, are personalised, or fall within another lawful exception. Nothing in this policy removes any non-excludable rights you have in relation to faulty or misdescribed goods.

Returns, faults, and refunds

Please read the Returns Policy and DOA Policy alongside these terms. Faulty, damaged, incorrect, or genuinely misdescribed items should be reported promptly. Returns and refunds are handled according to the nature of the goods, the issue reported, and your legal rights.

Website use

You must not misuse the website, interfere with its operation, attempt unauthorised access, or use the site for unlawful or abusive purposes. We may suspend or restrict access where necessary for security, fraud prevention, maintenance, or misuse.

Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under UK law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation. Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our liability in relation to an order will usually be limited to the amount paid for the relevant goods and delivery, unless the law requires otherwise.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law applicable in the relevant part of the United Kingdom, and disputes may be dealt with by the courts that have jurisdiction for consumer matters in that part of the UK.
