Planted shrimp tanks can use fertiliser, but sudden changes in dosing are rarely wise. Many problems blamed on “fertiliser toxicity” are actually a mix of overdosing, unstable maintenance, decaying organics, algae corrections, or multiple simultaneous changes.
Safer approach
- Start low and increase only if plants genuinely need it.
- Change one thing at a time.
- Watch shrimp behaviour after dosing and after water changes.
- Be especially cautious if the tank also contains sensitive snails or a new colony.
Simple, repeatable plant care is usually safer than chasing rapid growth in a shrimp-focused aquarium.
